Whether you're a parent, guardian, or somewhere in between, keeping up with everything can feel overwhelming—especially if your student is involved in multiple bands or you're new to the booster experience. While Discord is a great tool for communication, it can be tricky to quickly locate relevant information. This page is designed to provide easy access to key details you can easily reference anytime.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities
Spring Swing
Date: May 9th, 2025
Time: 6pm - 9pm
Location: Grand Junction High School
It’s almost time for Spring Swing 2025! This free public event will be held on the front patio of our new GJHS building. It offers live dance music courtesy of all three GJHS Jazz bands, free dance lessons, and free desserts. Food trucks will also be on hand. For more information on the event, volunteering, or making a donation, please contact SpecialEvents@GJHSBandParents.org
Country Jam
Date: June 26th - 28th, 2025
We will be working in the VIP tent emptying the trash can bags and replacing them with new liners. Each volunteer will be paid $15 per hour. The shifts are 1:00 pm - 6:30 pm and 6:00 pm - 12:00 am.
There are 8 spots per shift and we need to make sure that we fill all of them, as they made this position specifically for us. 50% of the money you earn goes towards your child's marching band fees and the other 50% goes to the band parent org. This isn't just limited to your child working, you can have family members work towards paying off your child's fees. You will also get wrist bands to enter the festival the day you work.
The tent does have AC and we will all be in the same area. There are families that are willing to car pool your child if needed. Please let me know ASAP if you would like to work. I need to have the sign up sheet turned into them by June 9th. Thank you all for always making sure our kids are supported!
Current Country Jam Shifts to Fill - Email president@gjhsbandparents.org if you are available to help.
Thursday June 26th: 6pm - 12am (4 slots)
Friday June 27th: 1pm - 6:30pm (4 slots)
Band Camp
Each summer, we rely on many amazing volunteers to help support our marching band camp. Volunteers assist with various tasks, including providing afternoon snacks and dinner for the students each day.
If you're interested in helping out or would like to learn more, please email us at info@gjhsbandparents.org.
Thank you for supporting our students and keeping the music alive!
In Season - Volunteer Opportunities
Pit Crew
Whether it’s replacing wheels, fixing wheels, replacing more wheels, or desperately repairing the Vibraphone using nothing but hoodie strings and sheer willpower in subzero temperatures… the Pit Crew plays a crucial (and occasionally ridiculous) role during the season.
We’re the ones hauling and setting up all the pit equipment for halftime shows and making sure everything works (or at least looks like it does from a distance) when issues arise. And let’s be honest — if you’ve ever spent time around teenagers, you know “issues” tend to pop up on occasion. We're the crew that jumps in when something falls apart, rolls away, or mysteriously disappears five minutes before showtime.
If you enjoy controlled chaos, heroic last-minute fixes, and being part of a fun, slightly quirky team — come join us!*
*You don't even need to know what a vibraphone is! (Come to think of it, it may have been a Marimba. Who knows......)
Pit assignments generally include: Sound Cabinet, Power, Speakers, Microphones, Drum Major podiums, Sound cart & Synth cabinet coordination. Not to mention the official "Holder of the Sharpie" (Greg).

Wheel repair #174
Uniform Crew (The Seam Team)
For each performance where the band will be in uniform, we have volunteers that get everyone in uniform and make sure any issues are resolved. Common things heard by this crew: "I forgot my shoes", "I need a ___________ (bobby pin, hair tie, glove)", "the snap on my pant hem came undone".
Uniform assignments generally include: Unloading & reloading the (4) carts from the trailer, handing out uniforms, shakos, plumes, putting up lights if it's dark and checking & collecting uniforms at the end.
The calm before the (90 person) storm
Water Crew (The Thirst Responders)
This crew makes sure the all-important water cart actually makes it into the trailer before events (don't ask…). They keep those bottles cleaned (well… occasionally) and filled, then hand out much-needed hydration to students before football games, marching competitions, and during parades.
Band Yearbook
Each year the Music Program puts out it's own yearbook. It is high quality and very popular with the students.
